• Individuals 18 years old by July 1 of the current school year may attend adult education. In certain circumstances, there may be exceptions to this rule, detailed eligibility requirements differ by program type.

  • Be 18 on July 1 of the current school year and bring a photo ID and proof of residency if you ID does not have your current address on it (such as a piece of mail).

  • You will have access to your study program 24/7 but we do require that you come to the (classroom) lab and meet with the teacher weekly.m description

  • With internet access and a computer or other electronic device you will have access to your program of study 24/7.

  • There is no definitive time frame. The amount of time it takes to complete your program of study will depend upon what you need to complete when you start and how much time you are willing to put into your studies. Someone that studies 12 hours a week will most likely finish faster then someone that only studies an hour a week.

  • We are an open entry/open exit which means we enroll people everyday and you begin once you have completed the enrollment requirements for your program of study.

  • Yes as long as you enroll in an approved High School completion program.

  • We have a limited supply of Chromebooks and are handed out on an as needed basis. You may use your own device, but are not obligated to purchase one if you don’t have it. Chromebooks are available for checkout. Stipulations apply and Chromebooks are available on a first-come, first-served basis. All SJCAE policies and guidelines will be followed.

  • Yes for GED and ESL enrollment.

  • If you don’t speak English our Sturgis site has English as a Second Language classes(ESL) you can enroll in. They offer beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. Once you increase your language skills you can advance to a GED or diploma class.

  • Enrollment requires a meeting with the Site Administrator, completing a registration form, presenting photo ID and proof of residency, completion of basic skills placement testing, and verification from a transferring school (if applicable). Students are tested as required by the Michigan Adult Education. The standardized tests identify existing skill levels, appropriate instruction, and academic gains. m description

  • To alleviate barriers, we offer free childcare at the Sturgis site and in collaboration with a local daycare center at the Three Rivers site.

  • Your diploma is the certificate issued by your state upon completion of the HSD/GED indicating that you have earned your high school HSD/equivalency. Your transcript is the official record of the Grades/GED test subjects that you took and your scores. Many colleges and universities require an applicant to submit a copy of their transcript prior to acceptance and admission

  • Adult Basic Education (ABE) Instruction to help adult learners improve their basic literacy and numeracy skills. (Grade levels 0–8.)

    Adult Secondary Education (ASE) Instruction at the secondary level (Grade levels 9-12) for adult learners, including those with a diploma or equivalency, to attain the education and skills equivalent to those of a high school graduate in order to transition to college, training, and/or employment.

    English as a Second Language (ESL) Instruction designed to help English language learners achieve competence in reading, writing, speaking and comprehension of the English language; and is designed to lead to attainment of a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent, postsecondary education or training, or employment.

    High School Completion (HSC) Instruction and credit recovery that leads to a State of Michigan high school diploma. Identify the graduation requirements and alignment to Michigan Merit Curriculum (MMC). Detail any opportunities for adult learners to earn credit towards graduation requirements for career and technical education courses or work-based learning.

    High School Equivalency (HSE) Instruction that prepares adult learners for high school equivalency testing (i.e., GED® or HiSET® exam).

    Civics Education Instruction on the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and civic participation that enables adult learners to acquire the basic and more advanced skills needed to function effectively as parents, workers, and citizens in the United States, Digital Literacy Instruction on using technology to enable participants to find, evaluate, organize, create, and communicate information; and developing digital citizenship and the responsible use of technology.

    Workforce Preparation Activities. Activities, programs, or services designed to help an individual acquire a combination of critical thinking, working with others, digital literacy, understanding systems, and self-management skills.
