High School Graduation Requirements

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS (ELA) - 4 CREDITS

Proficiency in State Content Standards for ELA (4 credits)

MATHEMATICS - 4 CREDITS

Proficiency in State Content Standards for Mathematics (3 credits)Proficiency in district approved 4th mathematics credit options (1 credit)

(Student must have math experience in their final year of high school)

SCIENCE - 3 CREDITS

Proficiency in State Content Standards for Science (3 credits); or beginning with the class of 2015: Proficiency in some State Standards for Science (2 credits) and completion of a department approved formal career and technical education program (1 credit)

WORLD LANGUAGE - 2 CREDITS

(Effective beginning with students graduating in 2016)

Formal coursework or an equivalent learning experience in grades K-12 (2 credits); or Formal coursework or an equivalent experience in grades (1 credit) and completion of a department approved formal career and technical education program or an additional visual, performing and applied arts credit (1 credit)

ONLINE LEARNING EXPERIENCE

PHYSICAL EDUCATION & HEALTH - 1 CREDIT

Personal Curriculums

The Personal Curriculum (PC) is a process to modify specific credit requirements and/or content expectations based on the individual learning needs of a student. PC is designed to serve students who want to accelerate, or go beyond, the MMC requirements and for students who need to individualize learning requirements to meet MMC expectations.

Special Education Services

In Michigan, Adult learners with disabilities, ages 18 to 26 retain the right to special eduction if they have not received a regular high school diploma. Special education supports must be reframed to meet the disability-related needs of these learners.

GED Testing

Students wanting to earn their high school equivalency certificate prepare using a variety of resources including the online program Essential Ed, Kaplan GED Prep and others along with teacher lead instruction. Coursework is designed to prepare participants to pass the GED tests in Language Arts Writing, Language Arts Reading, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics. GED tests will provide a universally recognized high school equivalency credential and measure high school level knowledge and skills for those who have not earned a high school diploma.

HiSet Testing

The HiSET® exam is made up of five sections of multiple choice and essay questions in-Language Arts – Reading, Language Arts – Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. (This program is currently only used in our correctional settings.)
